I just read this about the Labour Council that won't fly the St. George's Flag in case it insults the 16 muslims living there, as it was used in the Crusades 1000 years ago. The councillor also suggested "dropping it" for 20 years. What difference would that make after 1000 years? Taken in that skewed context, I would think the St. Georges Flag and the Union Jack together could upset just about every race on the planet.

 

Interestingly the 2 muslim leaders consulted about this think she's gone mad. Another case of namby-pamby lefties assuming who is going to be offended by what.

 

Perhaps the town's straight population might be offended by the council flying the Rainbow flag.

I'm with Frann on this, and not because of the English bit. You can subsitute Welsh, Scottish or Irish. These are our IDENTITIES. Unfortunately "British" is becoming a cover-all nationality for all sorts of undesirables. As I've said before, being born in a stable doesn't make you a horse, so being born in Britain doesn't make you British..... And it most certainly does NOT make you English/Welsh etc.

 

We "real" Brits need to keep our individuality from these heathens. I'd rather speak Welsh than arabic.
